Artwork stems from milky coffee

An artist has been inspired to create a new work based on the look of pouring milk into coffee, chime.in reports.

Seeing the cloud-like formations appear in his coffee as he poured in the milk, photographer Mark Mawson wondered how he could bring this to his work; eventually working out a formula for making multi-coloured liquid cloud formations.

Whilst remaining secretive about the technique he eventually settled for, Mawson has confirmed that the idea came from his regular trips to the coffee machine - although the photographs use paint instead of milk.

He has called the series ‘Aqueous Fluoreau’, which he completed during a stay in the South of France. They have since gone on to sell privately for thousands of pounds; however the artist is keen to point out that the greatest pleasure he gets is from seeing others enjoy his work.

Speaking to dailymail.co.uk of the artwork, Mawson explained: “In the previous series I was trying to evoke a feeling of being underwater or in alien environments. This new series is all about the colour and vibrancy of life.

“Most people love it but it evokes different feelings in different people. Each person sees different things in the images - much like seeing faces or patterns in the clouds in the sky. There will be a new Aqueous series in 2012, based on the same technique but it will be on a totally different theme.”
