Acclaimed filmmaker David Lynch has revealed that he finds good ideas “hiding in coffee”.

In a column for Huff Post Obsessed, the director of ‘Twin Peaks’ and ‘The Elephant Man’ described how he has about seven cups of freshly made coffee per day, which is actually much fewer than when he drank instant options - he would drink about 20 cups each day during that era.

Lynch explained that he has loved the drink since the ninth grade when he began to associate it with the concept of living an “art life”, which may inspire other creative types to buy the best bean to cup coffee machines.

“Coffee has always seemed to facilitate thinking and catching ideas. Not only that, but the flavour of the coffee is beyond the beyond good. Even bad coffee is better than no coffee at all,” said the 66-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Friday (January 20th).

Sophie Gilbert, associate arts editor of the Washingtonian, said it was almost a “dream come true” to hear Lynch’s thoughts on why he loves coffee so much.

She picked out his column as one of her picks of the week in terms of online food or drinks writing and admitted she is “fascinated/mildly obsessed” with the director, mainly because of ‘Twin Peaks’ but also down to his unusual remarks on Twitter.
