Ex-musician James Murphy has announced his next venture will be into the world of coffee, nme.com reports.

Murphy, who was founding member and frontman of dance act LCD Soundsystem, shocked the music world when he announced last year he was to call time on his band just as they were beginning to gain widespread commercial acclaim.

Now, however, Murphy has found a new way of filling his time, hoping he can make the same impact on the world of coffee as he did music. He wouldn’t be the only celebrity who has done so, however, with iconic film director David Lynch also extolling his love of the drink, even bringing out his own range for people to use at home in their own coffee machine.

Speaking at the premier of a documentary film charting the band’s last ever show at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Murphy declared his love for espresso, with many of the behind-the-scenes shots showing him making or drinking his favourite drink.

Enthusing to grubstreet.com, Murphy said how he planned to “just go to a roaster who lives near me and start tweaking beans and temperatures.

“I make a lot of coffee. For my birthday, my girlfriend got me a training course with the world champion [barista]. That’s what I’m going to do when I get back to London.”
