Wake up and have a coffee, say police

A police force in India has highlighted the benefits of coffee for drivers by using it in a recent initiative.
Drivers in the UK will no doubt be aware of the added alertness that a cup of espresso coffee can deliver for somebody who is tired but needs to hit the road; however, policemen on the State Highway of Kilimanoor in Kerala took it one step further by stopping motorists to feed them coffee, reported The Hindu.
Many of those people stopped by the police looked worried, but soon eased up when they were given a steaming coffee and water to wash their faces - all in the name of waking them up as they get behind the wheel.
This is not the only coffee stop set up by rural law enforcement officers in India, as they try to cut the number of traffic accidents taking place by harnessing the power of coffee.
It is not just drivers who are benefiting from free coffee, with the Sacramento Bee describing how important the caffeinated drink is to homeless people who have spent the night sleeping rough. Friendship Park co-director Garren Bratcher noted how the gift makes so many people smile.
Shawn Willis, one of those who benefits from the free drinks, said: “You wake up so cold. You’re shivering and everything. Come down to Friendship Park and get some of this warm coffee. It warms your insides and your outsides.”
